Vendor Profile: The Endocrine Society Placement Services
Recruiters can advertise in our publications and on our web site and reach the largest audience of endocrinologists in the medical community.

We also offer a Job Fair at our annual meeting each June. For one low fee, recruiters can post as many job openings as they like, review CVs on all registered job candidates and they can interview as many candidates as their time permits. Recruiters who do not attend the meeting still enjoy all of the above except face-to-face interviews.

Christine Whorton, with over 25 years of association management experience, has managed the Endocrine Society Placement Services for the last 17 years. She has developed this service into a fully computerized, online system.

Education Committee Update
The Education Committee is working very hard to complete all the arrangements for the Annual Convention and the School of Healthcare Recruiting Programs for May. We have a wonderful line-up with the Former Surgeon General of the US and the President of the American College of Emergency Medicine on tap for the Convention along with several well-known Sales & Training Speakers like Barb Bruno, Tim Alderman,  Earl Taylor with Dale Carnegie and Charles Lauer from Modern Healthcare. I believe that you will all be very pleased with the line-up. There are three Education Tracks on tap this year: management, locum tenens and recruiters. There are numerous vendors offering an abundance of products and services. The Peabody Memphis is an outstanding facility offering comfortable meeting rooms and sleeping accommodations and don’t forget the Daily Duck Parade.

I would like to offer you all an opportunity to come and “Cure Your Recruiting Blues” with us in Memphis and enjoy the Land of Elvis at Graceland and even enjoy the beat of the blues with the mystical nightclubs and legendary “Beale Street” with us.

We always need more folks to help us with our next conference which will be in Las Vegas (Lost Wages), Nevada. We look forward to everyone who might have an interest. Please feel free to contact me directly at (954) 439-4093 (cell), or Pat Doyle-Grace, Craig Fuller, or any one of our committee members. You can even contact NAPR Headquarters, and they would be happy to help you contact us. Happy Hunting and here’s hoping to see you in Memphis.

Miss Deeds

Dear Miss Deed:

I try to keep up with the Code of Ethics, but I am stumped by a question one of my employees asked. He knows that any doctors he takes from the World Job Bank he must first obtain permission from them before he sends them to another firm (for a split) or to a client. But, PhysicianWork and other job banks in which I participate, do not have that rule. Am I safe advising my employees that the World Job Bank rules only apply to doctors we get from there? It sounds like a simple…

Question

Dear Question:

Not all is what at first it appears to be (an unknown fortune cookie author).

The World Job Bank User Agreement, which every participant signs, incorporates the Code of Ethics which contains language which addresses your question, but I will return to this momentarily. The User Agreement specifically says that referring a doctor without the doctor’s knowledge is a violation which could lead the violator to be assessed liquidated damages in the amount of $500.

The Code of Ethics is broader in scope than the User Agreement which has jurisdiction only over the individual firm which signs the agreement. The Code of Ethics applies to all members of the Association and as you know, contains standards by which NAPR members have agreed to live.

So, (and finally) if you refer a doctor from the WJB, it is no different whatsoever than if you obtain a doctor from PhysicianWork, Practice Link or any other job board and refer them to another firm or client. The candidate must be notified first of what you intend to do and furthermore you must get the doctor’s permission to do so.

Remember, NAPR is a trade association whose members have chosen to adhere to standards that reflect the way all our members want each other to do business. Our members find comfort that all who join will be doing business the same way.

Outside job boards certainly adhere to professional business standards, but their purpose is solely to provide their users with candidates. They are selling a product, but NAPR is setting the rules for the way members live their business life.

As I mentioned above, the Code of Ethics governs all of our members’ business activities and it is very clear in its language about referrals. You must notify the doctor and get permission.

The source of the candidate really makes no difference, whether it is a job bank, a mailer (yours or NAPR’s) an e-mail or cold calling; as a member of NAPR, you must be upfront with the candidate -- that is, tell them your plans for them and get their permission. No exceptions, no excuses. Now go do the right thing (Thanks Dr. Laura).
