Awards Presented

Distinguished Service Award: Rich Glehan was presented the NAPR Distinguished Service Award, the highest award given by NAPR, for his devotion to and leadership of NAPR. This inherent trait that we share – the drive to strive for perfection – is one of the main reasons our Association continues to prosper, and the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award personifies these traits. Rich has been involved with and actively committed to this organization since the mid-1980s, serving on the Board, many committees, as well as President in 1990-1991. Rich continues to leave his mark on our Association with his creativity, perseverance, and vision for the future.

President’s Award: D.R. Richards and Pat Doyle-Grace received the President’s Award for unselfishly giving of their time, knowledge and creativity to support NAPR and its mission. These two individuals have shared their time and expertise with NAPR for several years and are still willing and able to contribute immeasurable value and precious time to our membership. Both seem to have their radar honed in on exactly what the membership wants and needs in the education arena.

Outstanding Committee Chair Award: Patrice Streicher received the Outstanding Committee Chair Award for her hard work and dedication to the Public Relations Committee. Ms. Streicher has spent untold hours over the past couple of years as the woman behind the “Physician Practice Search Guide.” The Guide has been distributed to over 1,000 resident program directors all over the country and we are confident this publication will carry the NAPR message far and wide.

Vendor Appreciation Award: The NAPR Board of Directors voted to present the 2008 Vendor Appreciation Award to Doc-in-a-Box Software for its continued support of NAPR through sponsorships, exhibits at the meetings, and advertising in several NAPR publications. Bob Epstein, Doc-in-a-Box Software, had to leave early and was not available to accept the award.

Vendor Profile: Medworking
With more than 11 years of solid performance, we believe our real success is found in our customer service to clients and candidates. There’s good reason we’re considered the “go to resource” for radiology and cardiology recruitment advertising.

Besides the obvious job postings and viable candidate profiles, we also offer advertising options with email newsletters, customized email campaigns, and banner advertisements. Several clients have found our customized email campaigns to be a lifesaver in getting the right exposure, fast. Our extensive opt-in lists can be narrowed by specific skills and/or geography.

Prior to making the switch to MedWorking almost two years ago, Ms. Erickson worked with real estate professionals on marketing plans in print and online. When she's not analyzing client needs or organizing marketing campaigns for RadWorking and CardioWorking, she enjoys spending time with her two dogs and new husband, Lucas.

Membership Committee Update:

NAPR/MGMA Survey Update

The MGMA/NAPR Physician Placement Starting Salary Survey for 2007 data has ended with more than double the placement responses from last year (well over 4,500). This excellent response helps to add credibility and statistical accuracy to the data provided. The final report will be coming out shortly and all those firms that participated will be receiving a copy in the mail.

The 2008 survey form will be online shortly. The plan for this year is to make it a perpetual survey whereby you will have the choice to input your placements as they occur rather than waiting until the end of the year to submit them. You can either enter them online or via an Excel spreadsheet or hard copy. The cut-off date for 2008 data is projected to be January 31, 2009. Your continued participation is appreciated.

If you have additional questions regarding the survey or how to participate, please contact NAPR Headquarters at 407-774-7780.

Public Relations Committee Update

The PR Committee completed its yearlong collaboration to author the “Physician Practice Search Guide.” In February 2008, the Guide was sent to Internal and Family Medicine program directors nationally. The NAPR invited these directors to share copies of the Guide with their colleagues and training physicians. Over the last month or so, NAPR Headquarters has received requests from various programs and physicians for additional copies, as well as permission to incorporate chapters of the Guide into training workshops for their physicians.

Currently, the Committee is working with Headquarters to add the Guide to the NAPR website. Upon completion of this project, physicians who register on the World Job Bank will be able to download a full copy or chapters of the Guide.

As for our members, the voting members were mailed a complimentary copy of the Guide. We have received requests from some members to obtain additional copies of the Guide. In response to member and physician requests, additional hard cover copies are available through headquarters on a cost basis of $5.00 plus shipping/handling.

The Committee is currently working on new exciting projects. Talented and creative members interested in joining the PR Committee should contact Patrice Streicher at pstreicher@foxhillassociates.com.

Miss Deeds

Two days later I got a call from "Recruiter B" at another recruiting firm (also an NAPR member and with which we have a contingency contract) regarding the same candidate. I told "Recruiter B" I had the name, but she asked if I had a formal CV to which I replied, “no.”  "Recruiter B" then asked when the original referral was made. When I said, “two days ago,” "Recruiter B" said that since I did not have a formal CV, that "Recruiter A’s" referral was invalid and because it was not received within one business day (invalidating "Recruiter A’s" first referral) that "Recruiter B’s" referral was valid since she was e-mailing the candidate’s formal CV to me as we were talking.

Was "Recruiter B’s" claim to the candidate valid?

This issue seems…
Technical

Dear Technical,

The real issue is the second recruiter is incorrectly splitting hairs. There are several points here.

First, a valid referral (after the candidate’s name is cleared) must be in writing and be received within one business day which are the key operative words here.

Second, the Code of Ethics calls for the written submission of a CV. Here is where some confusion reigns. A CV can be formal or informal. By definition it is “a summary of one’s personal history and professional qualifications…” Therefore any referral which contains the foregoing information is valid as long as it is in writing.

Third, it is true that when making a verbal referral, the CV information must be forwarded within one business day which "Recruiter A" did, thereby entitling her to the fee.

Referrals can be complicated. I am very glad you have taken the time to get a better grasp of this sometimes confusing issue. Your understanding of the Code and your requirement that firms adhere to it will alleviate many potential conflicts.

Cordially yours,
Miss Deed
